I mostly agree, but I believe the real crisis is continued acceptance that the state, or “rules based order” of thugs, is either authorized by God, or has taken the place of the nonexistent God of superstition; and if we surrendered to the right rulers things would be fine. That has never worked except in fantasy.
Though the USA did a decent approximation of an open society for a while, American exceptionalism is now a crock even if it once was grounded in an improvement over the known alternatives.
Americanism at its best isn’t owned by The Blob’s ersatz republic; or fundamentalists, whether they are for Christ, Zion, Marx, Scientism or all of these.
