With this EU law, called The Digital Services Act, which is beyond Orwellian in its scope and outrageousness, the promise of the Internet has officially turned to crap. That is, if they can enforce it without breaking the financial models of all the companies playing in their sandbox.
It probably won’t matter much, because between now and this time next year there’s a big chance that the sociopaths and dotards in charge will have killed more people than have died in all wars since humans started writing stuff down in Sumeria about 6,000 years ago. Humanity may be looking forward to, if not total annihilation, its biggest die-off percentage-wise since the black death of the middle ages. It will be self-inflicted, and have little or nothing to do with man made C02 or cow farts. It will have everything to do with the concentration of power in the hands of total nutcases and their minions in the courtier/technocrat class; along with the necrosis of Western culture which has been going on for decades but has reached the point where the patient is inoperable.
Don’t be looking for leadership from China. The PRC is rapidly becoming an economic basket case due to descent into the maelstrom of authoritarian control + insane debt loads and no institutional basis for honest business or fair trade. Their claimed successful communistic alternative to the fascistic equivalent economic hitmen in the West was always largely accounting fiction, combined with strict narrative control — the wave of the future. A statist turd by any other name smells just as rank.
I will still be generating as little tax and corporate revenue as possible while living a simple, frugal life until my time is up. If I have to create semaphore flags to communicate beyond voice range, I can do that.
